What is your space like?

The office is located at the Center for Mindful Living in Tenleytown Northwest Washington DC. The Center is at the second floor of the building, suite 200. Please note this is a meditation center. If you are expecting a spa-like environment, this is probably not the best place for you.   


Why massage therapy?

People of all ages and various lifestyles are beginning to understand the many benefits of massage therapy, including the role it can play in overall health and well-being. Research on the benefits of massage therapy gives strong evidence for including massage as part of an approach to easing pain and relieving stress and anxiety. From the muscle strain and soreness to serious or chronic pain, massage therapy is showing positive results.

What kind of massage is best for me?

During your first visit, a thorough intake and a close physical assessment are performed to ensure tailoring a customized treatment that meets your specific needs. 


What to expect during a massage session?

Every massage therapist has a unique approach. The goal is to make you comfortable and prioritize your needs. The space is designed to make you feel at home. Your therapist will take the time to listen to you and plan your treatment accordingly.

Can I stop the session if I feel uncomfortable?

Absolutely! You are always in control of your massage therapy session. Feel free to ask the therapist to pause or stop your massage if you are uncomfortable with any aspect of the treatment.


Can I play my own music during my session?

Absolutely! Just ask.


How do I prepare for a massage session?

For your first appointment, please arrive few minutes early to complete an intake form and physio assessment. Wear comfortable clothes. Hydrate before and after massage. Stretching before your session is a plus.


How do I book a session?

Click on Book Online button on the top of the page. Select the service you would like to book and choose the date and time of your preference. Enter the information requested to complete the booking.

When booking online, I was asked to put a credit card on file. Why?

Your card will not be charged when you book an appointment online. The booking system will ask you for your card information just to secure your appointment. You will be charged after receiving the service. However, please note that there is a firm 24 hour cancellation policy.


What is your cancellation policy?

If you need to cancel your appointment, reach out to your therapist as soon as possible to avoid cancellation fees. Note that by booking you authorize to charge your credit card a no-show fee of 100% of the scheduled value should you miss your visit without proper notification. You must cancel 24 hours in advance to avoid cancellation fees.


When should I avoid massage therapy?

Avoid or postpone massage if you are experiencing the following:

  • Common cold

  • Fever or dizziness

  • Have been drinking alcohol

  • Have recently had a surgery. You must check with your physician prior to your appointment

  • Have recently been in an accident and endured an injury, you may want to check with you physician first


Please note that we do not offer prenatal massage. However, we are happy to recommend other therapists who have extensive prenatal treatment experience.


Can I have a therapist come to my own home or office?

Yes! This services is available in Washington DC only. Send an inquiry to info@hawimassage.com with “in home/office massage” on the subject line. In your message, indicate your location and date/time preference as well as the length desired for the service. Do not forget to provide your phone number in your message as a phone intake may be necessary.


Can I use my health insurance to cover my massage therapy costs?

Some health insurance plans cover alternative therapies like massage. Note that you will have to initially pay for your session out of pocket, then you can file a reimbursement request directly to your insurer. If you decide to file for insurance reimbursement, your therapist will happily provide you a receipt to give to your insurer.

Before making your first massage appointment, check with your insurer to make sure you can be reimbursed. Ask if you need a prescription or a referral from your physician, if you must pay a deductible or a copay, or if you have coverage only for a limited number of visits.


Do you make special accommodation for persons with disability?

The facility, unfortunately, is currently not accessible to those with mobility impairment. The goal to is make massage therapy available to everyone and strive to accommodate any requests. Reach out in advance if you have any requests for special accommodations.
